What to expect during “The Future of Multicloud Data Protection Is Here” event: Join theCUBE Nov. 17

The path to cyber resilience for most companies continues to be paved with obstacles.

That was just one finding from a survey of Irish companies commissioned this year by Dell Technologies Inc. The company’s “Cyber Resilience Survey 2022” found that while 91% of organizations in Ireland recognized the importance of cyber resilience at the senior-management level, more than half of respondents realized that a rising number of cyberattacks was the primary barrier to achieving success.

Perhaps more troubling was that only 28% said they had a well-defined cyberattack response strategy. IT leaders understand the importance of protecting critical data assets, but they aren’t nearly ready when one occurs.

In a special launch event — “The Future of Multicloud Data Protection Is Here” — on Nov. 17 at 9 a.m. PT, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio theCUBE will explore the latest product news and vision from Dell on the future of data protection amidst a rapid shift to multicloud, lingering operational complexity, and the constant threat of cyberattacks.

Security as a service

Over the past several years, Dell has expanded its portfolio to include cybersecurity as-a-service offerings to help customers strengthen the data protection landscape. Through its Managed Detection and Response program, Dell provides expertise, tools and analytics on a 24/7 basis.

The concept is based on customer need to find and retain knowledgeable security professionals who can interpret the fragmented data generated by numerous security products within an around-the-clock security operation. Dell security experts are combined with the company’s Secureworks Taegis XDR security analytics platform to help customers prevent attacks across clouds and endpoints in the enterprise.

“We’ve tried to make that very easy for them with our Managed Detection and Response services … bringing the best of the industry and Dell Services together to give them a one-stop-shop managed service,” said Patrick Mooney, senior vice president of services product portfolio management at Dell, in an interview earlier this year with SiliconANGLE. “Let us watch for you so that you can run your business. And when we detect something, we’ll advise you and help you respond.”

Zero-trust approach

Dell is extending its data-protection approach to encompass large communities of users. In October, the company announced the launch of new Zero Trust services for Microsoft customers.

Dell combined its Identity and Endpoint Protection services with Microsoft’s Zero Trust solutions to provide organizations with insight into existing cybersecurity posture within the IT environment. Users that rely extensively on Microsoft technology can pair a Defender suite of solutions with Dell services to secure key areas, such as endpoints.

Dell’s approach highlights an important element for IT organizations seeking to implement data-protection strategies. Adoption of zero-trust principles is essential in a world in which one malicious user or infected device can bring down an entire company.

“We recognize the fact that the best security strategy for the modern world is a zero-trust approach.” said Deepak Rangaraj, PowerEdge security product manager at Dell, in a recent interview with SiliconANGLE. “Nothing is trusted implicitly. You’re constantly verifying every single user, every single device and every single access in your system at every single level of your IT environment.”
