Surprise, surprise. It's something with every new phone that gets blown out of proportion, but never is as bad as it seems.

For this sort of price, I think it's very reasonable to expect a near perfect phone.

Well, to the people that are affected greatly, it is a serious issue. The proportion of affected users may not be high, but from some of the photos I've seen, it's pretty bad.

I think this is blown massively out of proportion.

It's blown massively out of proportion by Samsung fans. Do you notice how they report every time "I'm exchanging V30 for Note 8". It's a massive PR action, black PR you know

Lucky. If only more weren't so fucked up

Mine too back order with T-Mobile was delivered today and it is just as perfect without the issue. Who knows why but looking great for people who may be getting a second wave.

level 1

Just return my, still like this phone, now try looking for other with the same screen like you :(

level 2

Not mine. Was watching the Android Headlines video and they showed theirs.

Just tested mine and it's pretty much the same deal. My order from T-Mobile was backordered and was just delivered today, I wonder if this was the reason.

level 2

I wonder if backordered means new batch. I'm thinking of returning mine and rebuying.

level 1

How do you test the phone for this issue? I keep seeing these posts.

level 2

Download the display tester app on Google play, click on the first test, swipe to side until you see grey screen, go into a dark room and lower the brightness by swiping down.

It's coming from an established source and not just a random anecdote so this is fine. Even if it was negative if the likes of AP or AC want to make a story it doesn't need to be in the mega thread.

anyone have the European version that comes with the B&O headphones? are those versions manufactured earlier or later than the US ones?

level 2

Is it even selling in Europe yet?

I'm a bot, bleep, bloop. Someone has linked to this thread from another place on reddit:

My uncharitable side has to wonder if LG knows this is an issue and is purposefully selecting better/higher binned screens for reviewers. Several reviews have had great screens now, but the two I've had in my hands were pretty rough. The display model at the local Verizon store was not perfect, but it was better, as if they knew....

level 1

Maybe all the people bitching about low brightness issues will now shut the fuck up /s

ofc they wont, i'm not delusional

level 2

So ws should just accept that a $800 device has a fucked up screen and not complain about it? It's unnaceptable to me.

level 2

Samsung shills and fanboys just couldn't shut up, that would lead to stall and flop in Note 8 sales

First one got dropped into a stream. Bought a replacement off eBay, which was great until I broke the front glass. Rather than go through the headache of doing a screen replacement, I bought another off eBay, this time, a v30+. Works great, especially after de-Sprinting it and loading original firmware. 5 years on, it's still my go-to and I can't justify spending $800+ for a replacement top-line phone.
