What is Brutalism?

Brutalism is a style of architecture that emerged in the post-WWII era. Many embraced it in the late 1950s and early 1960s due to its low cost and ease of construction. Brutalist buildings are characterized by their lack of decorative design, angular geometric shapes, and monochrome color palettes. Set apart by their extreme minimalist aesthetic, they are usually contracted out of exposed concrete and other raw materials.

More recently, the defining characteristics of architectural Brutalism have found their way into the world of web design.
