Starfield and Redfall delayed, now aiming for 2023

In a surprise announcement, Bethesda today revealed two major game delays that pushes back the release dates of both Starfield and Redfall. The news comes only weeks before the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase is supposed to go live with more information on these highly anticipated RPG experiences.

"We've made the decision to delay the launches of Redfall and Starfield to the first half of 2023," said Bethesda on Twitter. Originally, Starfield was slated to land on November 11 (11.11.22) this year while Redfall had a broad 2022 launch window. Both are Xbox platform exclusives.

"The teams at Arkane Austin (Redfall) and Bethesda Game Studios (Starfield) have incredible ambitions for their games, and want to ensure that you receive the best, most polished versions of them," added Bethesda. "We want to thank everyone for their excitement for Redfall and Starfield. That energy is a huge part of what inspires all of us every day and drives our own excitement for what we are creating."

The new schedule has the two games moving to an unspecified "first half of 2023" launch window, meaning fans may be waiting for many more months to jump in than previously anticipated.

Starfield was originally announced in 2018 as the start of a new universe and franchise for Bethesda Game Studios, slated to land before its next Elder Scrolls. While we are yet to get a good look at gameplay of this sci-fi RPG, details have begun trickling in during recent months. Redfall was a more recent reveal, with the vampire hunting cooperative RPG first appearing last year during E3.

Both Starfield and Redfall are coming to PC and Xbox Series X|S as Microsoft platform exclusives. Expect to see more gameplay and other reveals from the projects during the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase next month.
