The term streaming as it applies to media refers specifically to a continuous feed of information that receives little to no delay throughout the course of consumption by the end-user. This is due in part to the bitrates which are usually much greater than what is commonly offered when downloading files or software over the internet today. The technology involved is referred to as adaptive streaming or adaptive bitrate streaming, depending on the codec utilized.
