Shenzhen’s first hydrogen-powered bus line makes debut

October 21, 2021 10:57 pm

Today, according to Shenzhen Evening Post, the city’s first hydrogen-powered bus line enters service. It runs from the northen Pingdi Huiyuan station, to Shuanglong in the south, both located in Longgang District. The fleet comprises five passenger vehicles.

The refueling process for each vehicle takes about 20 minutes and a single bus can be driven for over 650 km. Residents can take them free of charge at this moment.

The whole bus measures 11 meters long, can carry 46 passengers, and uses batteries of Hydrogen Forerunner.

China is accelerating its transition to a low-carbon emission society.

Currently, new energy vehicles (NEV) sales account for 17.3% of its total vehicle deliveries, with a 19.5% proportion for new energy passenger vehicles, according to China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).

Shenzhen is the world’s first city to realize the full electrification of its bus fleet. The city’s 16,000 electric buses emit around 48 per cent less carbon dioxide and much fewer pollutants.

While the hydrogen fuel-cell energy is still not widely used in China, experts tip more rapid development over the next two decades. There were only a little more than 7,000 hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles in use in China at end of 2020, according to Caixin Global.
