JD follows peers Alibaba and Tencent to enter into NFT space with launch of seven limited-edition NFTs

Chinese e-commerce giant JD is following peers Alibaba and Tencent to venture into the nonfungible token (NFT) with the launch of a special NFT series for its annual JD discovery conference.  

Detail:  

JD will launch seven limited-edition NFTs on its own blockchain to commemorate its annual JD Discovery conference that will open in Beijing on November,22.  

JD.com will distribute the NFTs to anyone who signs up for its 2021 discovery conference between Oct.19 and Nov.22. Attendees can earn additional NFTs if they invite more people to attend.  

The seven NFTs feature JD.com’s mascot, each representing one of the company’s key sectors; retail, tech, logistics, health, finance and smart cities.

The NFTs are minted and released on JD blockchain, and it will not be released after Nov.22 and owner of the NFTs will be able to transfer them to others through JD’s blockchain.  

Context:  

JD’s enter into the NFT space come a few month after Alibaba and Tencent debut their NFT on their separate blockchain.  

In September 14, Alibaba has released 50 mooncake NFT on its e-commerce platform Taobao after releasing its “Dunhuang” style NFT in June. In August, Tencent has also entered into the NFT sector after launched its NFT trading platform named Huanhe that built on its Zhixin chain. The first NFT series on Huanhe featured 300 audio NFTs created based on the well-known Chinese celebrity talk show Shisanyao.
