Disable Google Drive drive letter
How can I completely prevent the new Google Drive app from mounting the Google Drive folder as a virtual drive? As in, stop it from mounting to any drive letter. This "feature" is pretty useless for me and just clutters up explorer.
Unrelated, but Backup and Sync had an option to disable syncing all USB devices. Now it must be done one by one as they are connected. How can I disable syncing for all USB devices, current and future?
So far the new app seems to be exclusively be a downgrade in functionality. Not happy.

For the time being, using Windows 10 - my solution is install Winaero Tweaker. It's free and very easy to disable the Google Drive letter.
In the image above, Drive Letter Q is the Google Drive Letter.
Once I checked it, that Google Drive Letter Q not showing anywhere, both in "This PC" and in the File Explorer left pane.

Marked as recommended for the sole purpose of visibility regarding the best way to raise priority in the Google ecosystem.
The official response from Google is pasted below.
”Drive for desktop operates as a virtual mounted drive to operate, it needs to remain mounted to work. If you don’t wish to see it, your operating system will have instructions for hiding a virtual or mounted disk. Do not eject it to avoid any issues.
If you have any suggestions or feedback about the new update on our Google Drive for desktop. We highly encourage you to send us a feedback through the application. Google is constantly adding features, and they love to get feedback directly from customers and take it very seriously.
To send in app feedback:
On the Task bar icon (top of screen on Mac, bottom of screen on Win) > Settings Gear > Send Feedback. If with bug to report, please check the box that says “Include diagnostic logs.”

It's also adding a new quick access link on every launch, and even deleting the entry results in it just being added back in.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. I swapped over a few minutes ago and it seems to just be removing all customization and cluttering up things.
Please let us manage our own computers!
That isn't a helpful answer. I've been in I.T. as a director for more than 15 years and this new Drive circumvents nearly all non-registry hack ways of hiding a drive. Encouraging people to edit things that could potentially brick their system is not a good answer to this horrible "feature".

I really like that the mounted virtual drive doesn't even point to the actual folder, but instead to a shortcut to the folder.
Anyways, from the business-side I'm really glad we have no plans to utilize Gdrive, and on a personal-side this was the last kick I needed to move to an alternative service.

This is really a frustrating issue tbh. After a couple of month i just decided to ditch google drive and started using dropbox. Google seems to be so user hostile idk why. May be their engineer think they are superior by I have some doubt regarding it.
