Some free resources to start your UI/UX Journey

The average beginner UI/UX designer won’t be able to pay the outstanding fees required for an iStock or other Stock photo providing service which is where this article comes in.

Anyone that has watched any of the videos on my channel will know that Unsplash is a free stock photo website I visit almost daily, it’s large collection of beautifully professional stock photos and amazing user experience has made it my all time favorite. There are however multiple alternatives which are close contenders on my list of best stock photo website and I will introduce all of them to you today.

Pixabay

The First website on our list is Pixabay. If you’re looking for free stock photos (which you probably are since you’re watching this video, then Pixabay will do the trick. But even more than that, Pixabay offers something a lot of these other sites do not, and that is free vector graphics and illustrations too. If you’re looking for more than just a simple picture then Pixabay’s your best bet.

Kaboompics

Much like Pixabay, Kaboompics also provides fantastic free stock photos, and while it doesn’t offer vector graphics and illustrations too, it does give you the unique feature of searching images by color. So if you’re looking for a very theme specific image head to Kaboompics to see what you can find.

Picjumbo

Now pic jumbo is a straight free stock photo provider. No vector graphics, illustrations or sorting by color, but if you think it’s inferior to any of the websites on here then you’re sorely mistaken. Picjumbo is run by Victor Hanacek a professional photographer and I’ve honestly never seen pictures of such high quality, perhaps above in certain cases if not at the same level as the pictures on the other sites featured here. Pick whatever picture you want and it’s guaranteed to make you UI look amazing!

Pexels

Anyone that’s looking for free stock photos has seen the name Pexels mentioned atleast once. Its huge collection of high quality, perfectly curated stock photos sets it as one of the top websites for stock photos, but what sets it apart is the fact that this website also offers free stock videos. So if you’re looking for more than just still images pexels is the way to go.

Stockvault

Stockvault has a smaller collection than most of the other websites on this list, but the quality more than makes up for it, in addition to the highly professional stock photos, you’ll also find free stock wallpapers and textures too, to meet and exceed all your design needs.

And these are only some of the amazing websites for stock photos there are out there. Other include:

Burst by Shopify

Stockvault

Pickwizard

Foodiesfeed

Styled Stock

And probably even more that I haven’t mentioned. To all those starting there UX and UI design journey I hope this helps you along and that you’ve gained new resources to make your designs even better.
