The Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2 is now official

Samsung has officially taken the wraps off the Galaxy Chromebook 2, an improved version of the model introduced last year and which comes as the world’s first Chromebook with a QLED screen.

The device thus comes with a 13.3-inch panel with FHD resolution and touch screen support, while power is offered by a 10th Generation Intel Core i3 chip. On the other hand, if you’re hoping for a lower price, Samsung is also offering an Intel Celeron 5205U model, though it goes without saying the performance would be downgraded too.

The Chromebook is offered with either 4GB or 8GB RAM, while in terms of storage, you can choose between 64GB and 128GB. The Chromebook 2 supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0, and it also packs a 720P HD camera that’s just the right choice for video calls and online courses.

To go on sale this quarter

As far as ports are concerned, the new device features two USB-C inputs, a headphone jack, and one microSD card slot that allows customers to boost the available storage.

“Many kids grew up using Chromebooks in school, and as they enter the workforce and their needs evolve, they’re looking for premium, powerful hardware that can elevate that intuitive Google experience,” said Shoneel Kolhatkar, General Manager, Head of New Computing, Samsung Electronics America. “We designed the Galaxy Chromebook 2 with these users in mind, taking the popular features from Galaxy Chromebook—incredible visuals, great specs, and gorgeous design and color—and bringing them to a wider base of customers.”

The new Chromebook 2 will be available in Fiesta Red and Mercury Gray, and the South Koreans claim it is supposed to hit the shelves in the first quarter of the year. Pricing will start at $549.99 for the base configuration, though the top-of-the-range model would be substantially more expensive.
