About Mozilla Ion

(Redirected from About Firefox Pioneer)
Previously known as Firefox Pioneer, this feature has been renamed Mozilla Ion in Firefox version 82 and higher. It is currently available in the U.S.

Mozilla Ion is a feature that allows you to opt in to contribute personal data that helps us understand the Web, how people interact with it, and how people use their browsers. Participation in Mozilla Ion is strictly voluntary. Once you’ve opted in, you will have the option to choose which studies to participate in. These studies will collect varying information about your browsing behavior, possibly including what web pages you visit and how you interact with them.

We protect your privacy by ensuring the following:

  • Your data will not be sold
  • Your data will only be shared with the researchers you’ve agreed to share it with
  • The data we collect from you is not connected to your name, email address, or IP, and you are only identified by a randomly generated number
  • We don’t collect browsing information when you are in Private Browsing
  • The data you submit is encrypted in Firefox and will not be decrypted until it is on a server that is not connected to the wider internet

By participating in this group, you put your data to work for a better Internet. Our goal is to better understand topics like internet usage, online privacy, algorithmic bias, discrimination, and misinformation. The data you agree to share with Mozilla (the makers of Firefox) helps create tools for better internet transparency and design products that give control back to the people who use them.
