Recent updates from a trustee shed light on the expected timeline for Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), and fiat reimbursements.

A screenshot shared by a creditor showcased a comprehensive table outlining the status of repayments, including completed and pending amounts of BTC, BCH, and fiat currency. Last week, users on the Mt. Gox insolvency subreddit disclosed that they began noticing updates to their claims accounts, revealing detailed repayment information.

Deposits and Cryptocurrency Arrivals

According to testimonies on the insolvency hub, some creditors have already received fiat currency deposits in their bank accounts, a significant milestone in the lengthy reimbursement process. One creditor reported receiving USD funds in their HSBC currency account with zero fees incurred.

The update on repayments in mid-March and BTC payments in mid-April underscore a steady progress towards resolving the long-standing issue. Furthermore, previous fiat remittances in December evoke optimism among creditors that cryptocurrency repayments will be as seamless as the fiat repayments.

Roadmap to Recovery

Established in 2010, Mt. Gox once dominated the BTC exchange landscape, facilitating most BTC transactions worldwide. However, its reign ended in 2014 when the platform suffered a devastating security breach and lost 850,000 BTC.

Thus, the repayment plan aims to address the grievances of creditors, with 142,000 BTC, 143,000 BCH, and 69 billion Japanese yen ($510 million) slated for distribution by October 2024. The updates regarding repayments follow the successful completion of identity verification procedures for Mt. Gox creditors and their associated crypto exchange accounts.

These accounts, including platforms such as Kraken, Bitstamp, BitGo, Bitbank, and SBI VC Trade, serve as conduits for cryptocurrency repayments. The meticulous verification processconducted in January 2024 underlines the trustee’s commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent reimbursement process for all stakeholders.
