The Apple Music Classical application that debuted for iPhone in March is now available for Android, too. The service gives access to the world’s largest classical music catalog, and is designed to help users find specific recordings of great works almost instantly.

It requires a subscription to Apple Music.

The ABCs: Android, Bach and Chopin

When Apple acquired the classical music service Primephonic in 2021, it got a huge catalog of recordings. These are available through the standard Apple Music application, but the special Classical app adds ways to search for music that aren’t applicable to rap, country, etc.

Users can search by composer, work type, work name, conductor, catalog number, instrument, period and even nickname. The Apple Music Classical application also includes playlists, composer biographies and guides for many key works specific to this genre.

The new app has access to over 5 million tracks. It lets users “enjoy the highest audio quality available (up to 192 kHz/24-bit Hi-Res Lossless) and hear classical favorites like never before in spatial audio,” Apple said.

Apple Music Classical is available now

Head to the Google Play Store to download the Apple Music Classical application for Android. The iPhone version is on the App Store.

The software is free but does require a subscription to Apple Music, which costs $10.99 per month for individuals. No additional subscription is required, though.
