Red Hat Insights simplifies RHEL management Featured
By Stephen WithersNew management capabilities in Red Hat Insights for Red Hat Enterprise Linux are designed provide a simplified RHEL management experience even in hybrid clouds.
The company describes Red Hat Insights as a "skills leveller for IT organisations".
Available through a web based console, the enhanced Red Hat Insights brings a single user interface to multiple RHEL deployments. The new capabilities use predictive analytics to detect potential bugs, misconfigurations or security vulnerabilities, and then allow IT teams to quickly fix the issues without using Red Hat Satellite Server. It also supports patch templates to act on server groups simultaneously.
This saves systems administrators from having to work through the command line, and removes the need for a deep understanding of Red Hat Satellite Server or a similar management system.
Red Hat Satellite is still available for customers who need advanced Linux management capabilities for disconnected or air-gapped deployments.
Red Hat Insights includes an image builder service to make it easier and quicker to build standardised, optimised operating system images adhering to organisational requirements for security and compliance that can be deployed across a hybrid cloud from a single interface.
The new version allows IT organisations to add non-RHEL software to such images.
“The demands of managing Linux across the hybrid cloud are stretching the ability of resource-constrained IT departments to keep pace," said Red Hat vice president and RHEL general manager Gunnar Hellekson.
"CIOs need to be able to extend existing skill sets and lower the skill barriers for overseeing Linux estates, which is exactly what the management capabilities of Red Hat Insights are designed to do.
"From a single web console, systems administrators of all skill levels can detect, analyse and patch potential issues and push standardised operating systems to whatever footprint operations require, simplifying the complexities of Linux management without limiting the ability to innovate.”
The improved Red Hat Insights is included with every RHEL subscription.
