In a remarkable development, Polygon has become the second-largest gaming blockchain, outperforming Hive in user activity during March. This growth in unique active wallets (UAWs) can be partly attributed to the increasing popularity of the Hunters On-Chain RPG.

Explosive Growth in Unique Active Wallets for Polygon

The Ethereum layer-2 scaling solution, Polygon, witnessed a significant surge in user activity in March. According to DappRadar’s “Blockchain Games Report,” the number of UAWs engaging with games on Polygon reached 138,081 in March, marking a 53% increase from February.

This impressive figure places Polygon well ahead of the third and fourth-ranked gaming blockchains, Hive and BNB Chain, which boast 84,000 and 80,000 UAWs, respectively. The leading gaming blockchain, Wax, still maintains a substantial lead with 314,000 UAWs.

The report states, “Polygon, a blockchain previously known for DeFi DApps, overtook Hive this month and secured the second spot. This is a positive sign for Polygon, as it is now gaining recognition as a gaming blockchain.”

Hunters On-Chain Game Drives UAW Increase on Polygon

One major factor contributing to the surge in UAWs on Polygon is the Hunters On-Chain game by BoomLand. The game has experienced an astounding 17,000% increase in UAWs over the past 30 days, as per DappRadar data.

Launched in January, Hunters On-Chain is a Web3 adaptation of BoomLand’s mobile game, Hunt Royale. This free-to-play role-playing game features nonfungible token (NFT) integrations and a visual style reminiscent of Minecraft. The game reached an all-time high UAW count of around 55,300 on March 9.

While the reasons behind the game’s popularity surge last month remain unclear, the anticipation of an in-game NFT sale on March 31 could have played a role in attracting users.

Overall On-Chain Gaming Activity and DApp Industry Trends

The report also highlighted that the total on-chain gaming activity decreased by 3.33% in March, registering 741,567 daily Unique Active Wallets (dUAW). Despite this decline, games still constitute 45.6% of the DApp industry activity in Q1 2023.

Polygon has experienced growing momentum in recent months, especially in NFTs, gaming, and the metaverse. Polygon Labs, the team behind the network, has secured numerous high-profile partnerships, including Warner Music, Starbucks, Adidas, Reddit, and Adobe, to develop and host NFT projects.

Furthermore, the team successfully launched Polygon’s open-source Ethereum Virtual Machine equivalent zero-knowledge rollup on March 27. This development is expected to enable DApps to scale through transaction batching, improving performance and reducing gas fees for transactions on the network.
