不过，根据国外科技媒体 BetaNews 报道，Mozilla 希望通过延长火狐浏览器 Firefox 对 Win7、Win8.1 的支持，来吸引这些用户，从而扩大自己的市场占有率。
IT之家查询 Statcounter 网站，发现在 Windows 市场份额中，Win7 用户规模占比为 9.62%；Win8 用户规模占比为 0.62%；Win8.1 用户规模占比为 2.31%。这意味着依然使用这些过时系统的用户规模占比为 12.55%，按照微软 Windows 用户的体量，这些用户数量依然是非常可观的。
Mozilla 虽然不能永远保证支持，但希望将支持至少延长到 2024 年。Mozilla 可能会在 2023 年年中的时候推出 Firefox ESR 版本，来支持 Win7 和 Win 8.1 系统。
