1989年，任天堂发布第一代便携式游戏机Game Boy，它的诞生奠定了任天堂在掌机领域的绝对统治地位，同时也成为了世界上最为畅销的几款游戏机之一。
今天，根据数据统计机构站vgchartz的消息，
Switch的全球销量已经达到1.21亿台，登上游戏硬件销量榜第三名。
而在Switch之前的， 是1.58亿台的PS2，以及1.54亿台的NDS。
同时，该榜单前十名中，新世代游戏机仅有任天堂Switch，其次就是2013年推出的PS4，共售出1.17亿台。
