入主推特之后，马斯克大刀阔斧对推特进行改造，除了裁员近七成之外，还有各种新花样，最新的变化就是推特突然封杀了一些第三方客户端，这跟国内的微博类似，后者也封杀了各种无广告的第三方客户端。
官方原版客户端会有广告，而且推文排序也不尽如人意，第三方推特客户端优点很多，
包括去广告，还有正常的信息流
，还有客户端做到了官方没有的功能，因此深受用户欢迎。
此前推特对第三方客户端是默认允许的，甚至还开放了API给开发者， 然而日前多款第三方客户端被封禁，不能再登录账号。
受影响的应用包括iOS/Mac端Tweetbot、Twitterrific、Birdie for Twitter，Google Play上销量最高的Fenix 2和Talon，以及跨平台的Echofon等。
