Gaming Laptop

BOE showcased the world’s first 600 Hz gaming laptop display at China’s World Display Industry Conference. Details about the panel are pretty limited, and BOE did not mention the type of panel it used.

That means it can be either VA, IPS, or TN. There is no info regarding the resolution either. All that we got to know is that the panel is 16 inches, and it supports a maximum of 600 Hz refresh rate. Now, the main question is, does the gaming world really need a 600 Hz display?

High Refresh Rate Gaming Displays: Competition Analysis

Earlier this year, Alienware released a couple of gaming laptops that boast 480 Hz panels. And currently, most of the notebooks in the market top out at 360 Hz. However, these were not the actual competitors for BOE.

Instead, BOE wanted to take on Nvidia and Asus. At Computex, those two brands revealed a model that was capable of reaching 500 Hz. But it seems like the laptop was just for showcasing the two brands’ ability, as it’s not available for purchase.

Do You Need a 600 Hz Gaming Laptop?

It feels like refresh rate has now become a marking term for laptop makers. Each year, they push the refresh rate of laptops and make a great deal out of it. And when one laptop pushes the industry’s limit, others tend to follow.

The thing is, when new hardware pushes the limits, it’s not a question of “why?” Instead, the question shifts to “why not?”Now, even if more laptops come with 600 Hz or 500 Hz displays, these models will definitely target a specific niche.

However, most gamers are perfectly satisfied with a screen that is 120 Hz or 240 Hz. So, I personally do not think that the 600 Hz display from BOE will get a lot of attention from the gaming community.
