我们身处的银河系到底有多大？这一直是困扰天文学家的难题，不同方法得出的数字也差异极大。
一项最新的研究指出，我们的银河系比看起来大得多，横跨近200万光年，比它的发光螺旋圆盘宽了15倍以上。
当然，天文学家早就知道， 作为银河系最亮的部分，也就是太阳系所在的薄饼状恒星盘，跨度约为12万光年。
