Coming up with ideas for theoretical UX projects isn’t always the easiest, many suggestions can lack real world usage and generally provide little application towards products that actually exist, meaning a limited number of usable tips and tricks end up being picked up. Not only this, but project generators can have their limits, from limited scope and less focus on niche subjects, so in this article I’ve put together some ideas with a hypothesis and a basic scope that you can flesh out and create to add to your portfolio, hopefully giving you something valuable to add to that portfolio!

Sleep Tracker App

Hypothesis

Create a solution that allows the user to track their nights sleep quality from a physically attached band/ring, and view historical data in order to analyse improvements.

Features

• Let the user see their sleep patterns.
• Display users sleep quality.
• Let the user input more information to provide more detailed, relevant details.

Inspiration

Mindfulness & Meditation

Hypothesis

Build an app that allows the user to create custom mindfulness routines, as well as view pre-made staff and community made routines.

Features

• Let the user build out their own custom mindfulness routines, or customise existing ones.
• Allow the user to view recommended, as well as popular community made routines.
• Provide the user a tracking calendar to view their efforts.

Inspiration

Genetic Information Display

Hypothesis

This product should allow the user to send in genetic information, and view a summary of their genetic markers and traits.

Features

• Create an ‘onboarding’ that seamlessly sets the user up to receive a kit to procure their genetic information, as well as easily return it.
• Let the user browse various valuable biomarkers.
• Provide the user some more detail on each of the biomarkers available.

Medication Reminder

Hypothesis

Create a solution that allows your users to set up customisable schedules that remind them to take added medications.

Features

• Customisable notification schedules for each medication.
• Create grouped medications to be notified to take all together.
• Allow users to input details and information about the medications.
• Provide a basic database of medication, with details and interactions of each.

Inspiration

Medical Emergency ID

Hypothesis

Build a solution that acts as an all-in-one medical ID for emergency situations, displaying important medical information valuable to emergency services.

Features

• Take the user through a passport / ID verification process to ensure accurate details.
• Display a clean and clear UI that allows emergency services to quickly gauge any important information about the patient.
• Allow users to add premade and custom medical information to their Medical ID.

Inspiration

Nutritional Tracker

Hypothesis

Allow your users to track their macro and micro nutrient intake daily, as well as having a predefined calorie & nutrient goal set that can be customised by the user.

Features

• Create a searchable database of foods, with the option to add custom foods.
• Allow users to easily add meal split into breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.
• Provide users a summary of macro & micro nutrient intake daily, as well as on other time frames inside a calendar.

Inspiration

Medication Database & Guide

Hypothesis

Create an easily browsable database of medications and their interactions, allowing users to quickly understand implications of what they are taking, and any precautions they should take.

Features

• Create a clean home interface displaying starred medications, allowing expansion into each medication for further important details.
• Allow users to create custom medications, and optionally input information about them.
• Allow users a to organise medications into folders.

Inspiration

Remote Doctor

Hypothesis

This app allows users to communicate with medical professionals in fields relevant to their issues. More serious cases allow in person visits to be scheduled.

Features

• Allow users to see doctors after a short wait, as well as book medical visits.
• Go through an onboarding session to give a brief overview of the users issue.
• Take the user through a setup for their permanent medical record.
• Create both a chat interface, as well as a videocalling interface.

Inspiration

Symptom Checker Chatbot

Hypothesis

This app allows users to instantly input various symptoms through a chatbot style interface, providing various possible issues in scale of likelihood, and review causes as well as prevention.

Features

• Take the user through a series of questions inside a chat interface to gauge a possible issue.
• Allow the user to scroll through possible issues, and see detailed information about each including likelihood, severity, potential causes and prevention.
• Allow issues to be favourited for easy access.

Inspiration

Workout Planner & Tracker

Hypothesis

Inside this app users are able to view set themselves a fitness goal, and be offered a variety of premade workouts, or customise them / build their own froms scratch. Each routine can be followed exercise by exercise, and users can view their personal bests for every exercise.

Features

• View your workout routine and log completion after each exercise.
• Create custom workout routines, as well as view premade routines.
• Analyse past workouts and view your personal records for each exercise.

In Summary

There are endless ideas that could be built out for the healthcare space, but I found this selection to best translate into a variety of relevant fields, and hopefully you’ve found some value or inspiration yourself! This one was for those who want to niche themselves into the healthtech world, but for those of you who are passionate or interested in other sectors such as finance, entertainment or even in new tech such as AR & VR, I’ll have some articles out for you soon!
