Record, remix, share
Nothing beats the rush of shipping a big product release. The unique mix of excitement, joy, and fear. Thanks for checking out our latest Detail release. We’ll be hanging out here today to answer any questions about our product, team, challenges, and plans for the future.
A little background about what we're building at Detail...
Video production is a workflow challenge. Creating captivating video is unnecessary time-consuming and difficult. If you’re already creating video today, you know the pain of juggling multiple tools to record, edit, share and promote your content. And if you’re just getting started, the learning curve is frustratingly steep.
That’s why we’re building an all-in-one tool for real-time video production that inspires and is easy-to-use, and gives the next 500 million creators new superpowers to produce video for any platform.
@florin_biro Oooh, we love technical Qs
> If I plug in a capture card and hook up a DSLR, can I control recording resolution, fps and bitrate? If not what resolution, fps and bitrate does it record in and what compression it uses?
We record incoming video 30 FPS and the incoming resolution. We have different quality settings for bitrates (see preferences). Currently, we record the incoming video at 10, 25, or 100mbit in HEVC. We don't support other frame rates yet, but it's something we'll likely add soon. We render our video in 4K, and you can export your video at different quality settings and resolutions.
> How much can it handle, have you tried to throw at it say 3 4k 30fps cameras and record in the same time, does it bottleneck the Mac's processor?
3x 4K 30FPS should work without issues on the M1/M2 Mac. When you push it to 4 or 5 incoming 4K video sources, you might start to see some dropped frames. Performance of the M1/M2 Macs is insane.
> For multi-person podcasts, can I have multiple audio sources and control volume independently?
Not yet. But we're working on this as we speak. For now, we aggregate the audio channels into a single audio track that we store with every ISO video.
> Is there a windows version coming as well?
We don't have any plans for that yet. For now, we're leaning in on the insane rendering power of Apple Silicon. We're a small team and want to make the biggest impact.

@florin_biro Unfortunately, we don't (officially) support Intel Macs. The performance difference between Apple Silicon and Intel machines was too large and was holding us back from building what we believe is the future. Recording with one or two sources might work, but we're not actively testing on Intel machines anymore, so I couldn't say for sure. I'd be curious how it works for you.
We're big fans of the new Sony camera's with very good USB streaming quality (1080p / 30fps). The A7IV and FX30 have excellent USB support. For friends we're hosting in our podcast studio, we record, and edit 3 x 1080p cameras, an Apple TV through Elgato 4K60S+, and 1 or 2 iPhones with ease.
We fixed the Discord link. Thanks for the heads up! 🙇♂️
