The demand for Apple’s new device is slower than expected

Apple has started taking pre-orders for the new-generation iPhones, and needless to say, the Pro models are the ones spearheading the demand.

But on the other hand, it looks like the all-new iPhone 14 Plus isn’t selling exactly as strong as Apple hoped it would sell, with analyst Ming-Chi Kuo explaining pre-order numbers show the device is actually selling slower than the iPhone 13 mini.

We all know what happened to the iPhone 13 mini due to its slow sales, so if the iPhone 14 Plus wants to survive, it should better convince customers it’s worth their money.

“iPhone 14 and 14 Plus will be in stock on launch day, reflecting lackluster demand. As it stands now, the pre-order result for iPhone 14 and 14 Plus is worse than iPhone SE 3 and iPhone 13 mini (SE 3 and 13 mini both suffering from an order cut in 1H22),” Kuo explains.

“The iPhone 14 Plus is the replacement for the iPhone 13 mini. However, this new product’s pre-order result is significantly lower than expected, meaning Apple’s product segmentation strategy for standard models fails this year.”

Apple expected to adjust iPhone 14 Plus shipment forecast

On the other hand, the Pro models are the ones enjoying strong sales, with the delivery times for both the standard and the Max versions longer than in the case of the iPhone 13 generation.

Kuo believes there’s a chance Apple would eventually adjust iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus shipments because of the low demand, though at this point, it’s too early to tell how the demand would evolve in the short term.

“Whether Apple will increase Pro orders depends on how long the strong demand for Pro models can last amid the recession. Apple may cut iPhone 14 and 14 Plus shipment forecasts for November and beyond within a few weeks if the demand for the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus doesn’t improve after the launch,” Kuo notes.
