Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 undergoes scratch, burn, and bend testing

Samsung's newest big foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold4, was put through the ordeal of JerryRigEverything's 'durability test' at the end of last month, and survived to tell the tale - although it wasn't left exactly in tip-top shape.

Now's the turn of its little sibling, the Galaxy Z Flip4, to be subjected to the same grueling tests. Let's see if the smaller device turns out to be more fragile or not.

The Flip4's outer screen is covered by glass as you'd expect, which means it scratches at level 6 on the Mohs hardness scale, with deeper grooves showing up at level 7. In contrast, the inner display - or rather, the screen protector on top of it - scratches at level 2, with deeper grooves at level 3. This means fingernails could in fact damage that surface.

The sides of the phone are made from aluminum, while the buttons are metal, as is the SIM card tray. Like with the Fold4, we also see the phone subjected to a lot of dirt, testing the hinge - and it all goes well. The inner screen's protector melts when subjected to an open flame - since it is plastic after all.

Finally, the Flip4 bends backwards a lot, and not without strange popping noises coming out of it, but remains functional without any issue. However, after being subjected to all that abuse, it doesn't fully close anymore. The purpose of this test was to figure out how durable a foldable device is these days, and hopefully if you were wondering about that it provides a useful answer.
