The AMD reference model fits. Be aware though it uses 3 slots, so if you install it in slot 1 it will cover slot 2, if you install it in slot 2 it will cover slots 3 and 4. As you can see not very practical. Best solution is a PCIE expander.

The length of the card is the issue here, most brands cards are too long to fit. Yes I know, but it the OP checks Gigabyte 6900 XT length then it may give some info.

Thanks guys, the Gigabyte looks favourite as 286mm long, a lot are way to long, reference card also isn't to long. this 7.1 Mac Pro has a Radeon VII in it at the moment might just stick with that for now. prices are falling for the 6900xt cards now was curious which would fit.

In the Gigabyte product line, the Gigabyte model fits, but the Aorus does not. I'm running a Gigabyte RX6800XT.

For the RX6900XT, this is the one to get:

This is the one ordered, should last a few good years, and a bargain on Ebuyer at the moment 👍

I thought I would do a comparison on Open CL between Monterey and Win 11 and wow the drivers in OSX are way down on win 11 the new AMD drivers are so much faster. I wonder if apple update the AMD drivers or keep them as is so the M1 looks good haha.

Yes I had the same results on openCL. Apple focuses on Metal and OpenGL is neglected.

You would think Apple would allow AMD to port over to OSX a decent driver for all really, what difference does it make to apple if the AMD driver is good in openCL. The AMD driver should be the best it can be in all requirements.

Yeah, I have similar results when comparing my RX-6800XT in macOS vs Windows, it really is a shame that they seem to purposefully keep the AMD drivers slower on macOS (as you mentioned), but luckily all of my games are in Windows, and they run beautifully, so whatever

I can't wait to see how mine will go when it gets here - I got the W6800X 32GB. I want to get back into Flight Sim again, so windows will go on it as well.

Do the cards with type-c ports behave any differently when plugged into a displayport monitor? As in, can you just consider the type-c port as a DP port (given DP is a superset and can adapt down to HDMI, but HDMI can't do the reverse). All the cards with 3x DP are too long for the 7,1.

they behave no different, the most important thing is to buy a Bi directional USB-C to display port cable. they work either way round then, no problems.

So if you're not interested in the USB function, say if you were using an adapter like this one:

Club 3D | USB Type C to DisplayPort 1.4 8K60Hz HBR3 Active Adapter

The CAC-1567 Club 3D USB Type C to DisplayPort™ 1.4 Adapter 8K60Hz provided the source supports DSC1.2 HBR3 allows you to connect any USB Type C source to DisplayPort™ display at max 8K60Hz resolution and HDR support. It works on any USB Type C host that supports DP 1.4/DP 1.2 Alt mode...

www.club-3d.com

...you can just consider it a differently shaped Display Port?

Actually that brings up a question - do the cards provide USB over the link when used in a 5,1 with a type-c display?

^^^^Are you sure? With my 7,1, I originally used a Monoprice Bi-directional cable and did not get USB power to the monitor. I also lost the ability to adjust the brightness in the Monitor CP. I now use the special Belkin cable and get all functions.

I have the Sonnet and it fits fine in my 7,1:

Sonnet AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT - Sonnet

Sonnet AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT graphics card and bundles for eGPU Thunderbolt expansion systems, 2019 Mac Pro, and Windows PCs.

www.sonnettech.com

I believe the Sonnet is a 2.5 slot width card. Would be nice to find one that is only a 2 slot card, but I do not think any 6900XTs are only 2 slots wide.

I could be wrong, but I thought I read that Dell/Alienware also released a RX 6900 XT variant that was dual-slot.

I have their RX 6800 XT that is dual-slot. I believe it's the only one of this model that is 2 slot wide.

OEM AMD 6900XT works great on mine.

I removed the 580X MPX module and put this in there instead. No issues.

Of course, I am not using XDR displays etc, so haven't dealt with Thunderbolt display issues.

However, I would like to buy dual 5k Apple displays soon.

What Belkin cable did you get? And when you mean get all functions, did you mean you got your ability to use the USB ports on an XDR monitor?

I'm currently using a Gigabtye RX 6900 XT Gaming OC. Took out the Vega II. I'm using the StarTech DisplayPort to USB-C Bi-Directional cable. Monitor is fine, but as expected I lost the ability to use the USB-C ports at the back of the XDR Display.

Will the Belkin cable bring this function back?
