HashiCorp 家的軟體看起來都支援 APT repository 了

以前 HashiCorp 家的軟體大多都是自己下載 binary 後放到 /usr/bin 或是 /usr/local/bin 下使用，剛剛翻了一下 Nomad 與 Vault，看起來都支援 APT repository 了：「https://apt.releases.hashicorp.com」；另外也有 RPM repository：「https://rpm.releases.hashicorp.com」。

這樣下個禮拜分享會的投影片也要改一改了...

另外看了一下架構，從錯誤訊息觀察，看起來後面是 Amazon S3，前面是 Fastly 的 CDN。

管理一堆 FreeBSD 的方法

本來是放在 Gea-Suan Lin's BLOG for Work 的，想了一下還是這邊也放一份好了，如果有什麼意見的話麻煩提供一下 :p 以前在計中弄二三十台 FreeBSD 的時候就是用 screen + portupgrade 一次把幾十台機器升級，升級完整個重開機就好了，不用管什麼東西升級完要重跑。安裝新軟體如果需要指定 WITH_BLAH=yes 或是其他的東西，記得到每台上面的 /usr/local/etc/pkgtools.conf 改一下。(以前的 ports 還沒有 OPTIONS 這個功能) 這個模式在我一個人管的時候很好，但是當要傳承的時候就糟糕了：要瞭解這種方法的人大概都需要玩過一陣子 FreeBSD，知道只靠系統基本的套件管理是不夠的，才會有感覺。D2 上面是到了 ronnywang 才接下去。現在在交大資工當系計中助教也遇到同樣的問題。 一種想法是利用 package 更新 (這個在將 ccbsd*.csie.nctu.edu.tw 重灌成 FreeBSD 6 已經實行一段時間了)，但目前最大的問題在於使用 package 會： 無法善用每台機器的 CPUTYPE。 某些 ports 無法產生 package，像是 screen (技術問題)、jdk (授權問題)。 另外，有時候會發生套件安裝好，但是無法產生 package…

Load Impact 的 k6 網站壓測軟體

這幾天在 Hacker News 上看到 Load Impact 推出的 k6 壓測程式，結合了 Golang 的執行效率與 JavaScript 的操作語法，讓使用者可以很簡單的進行壓力測試，在 Hacker News 上也有蠻正向的反應：「K6: Like unit testing, for performance (github.com/loadimpact)」，我唯一會在意的應該是 AGPLv3 的部份... 先看了一下資訊，看起來「Load Impact」是公司名稱，「LoadImpact」則是產品名稱，然後現在要改名變成「k6」與「k6 Cloud」： Load Impact is now k6 Due to the success and rapid growth of the k6 open source load testing tool we decided to…

gitolite 的 hook...

弄了整個週末的 gitolite，總算是把 hook 搞定。 簡單的說，修改完 ~/.gitolite/hooks/common/ 裡的 hook script 後，需要下 gl-setup 指令，這個指令會把現在所有的 git repository 內的 hook script 再 symbolic link 一次。 另外，gitolite 的環境變數可能會影響 git 本身執行 (我是在 git pull -v 更新某個目錄下的 git repository 時失敗)，這時可以用 /usr/bin/env -i /usr/local/bin/git 確保 git 執行時不會被環境變數影響... gitolite 看起來是個好東西，不過光是靠官方的文件要搞定頗累... (週末都在 Stack Overflow 上度過)
