A Guide to New Year's Eve & New Year's Day in Greater Philadelphia for 2021/2022

Count down to 2022 with fireworks, dancing, toasts and more...

Travel Responsibly: As the region recovers from COVID-19, safety guidelines have evolved at attractions, restaurants, shops and hotels. Philadelphia requires masks or proof of vaccination at all indoor public spaces. Advance tickets or reservations remain recommended or necessary at many spots. Your best bet: Check online or call ahead.

It’s almost time to bid farewell to 2021! After a pause in parties, Philly’s going big for 2022, welcoming back classic events and introducing some brand-new ones into the mix.

The big news: The city’s uber-popular Rivers Casino New Year’s Eve Fireworks on the Waterfront are back, free and in person to welcome 2022. The two shows — one at 6 p.m. and one at midnight — are soundtracked by KYW Newsradio, so tune in to 103.9 FM, or hear the music and see the brilliance of the fireworks in person from speakers set up at Penn’s Landing and outside Rivers Casino.

The area’s entertainment calendar for the last day of the year is packed to the brim, including Disco Biscuits concerts at The Fillmore Philadelphia, Start Making Sense at The Ardmore Music Hall, Kindred the Family Soul at City Winery Philadelphia and more.

Of course, there’s plenty of fun for the young ones, too, with a countdown to 6 p.m. at Franklin Square, fireworks at Sesame Place and a dance party at the Please Touch Museum.

As for New Year’s Day, the long-running Mummers Parade heads back to Broad Street for sequinned string band struts all day long. And, for the first time ever, there will be a fireworks show on Saturday, January 1: the Visit Philadelphia New Year’s Day Fireworks Spectacular along the Delaware River.

If you’re out and about for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, remember that businesses and attractions in Philadelphia require proof of vaccination or mask-wearing at all indoor public spaces, while guidelines and requirements vary in the surrounding Greater Philadelphia region. Advance tickets or reservations remain recommended or necessary at many spots. Your best bet: Plan ahead. Read more right here.

Get your 2022 party hats ready, and read on for a guide to New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day in Greater Philadelphia for 2021/2022 below.
