Tuesday, Chinese virtual human developer Next Generation announced that it has completed a Series A+ financing round led by NetEase. Arena Capital, Shunwei Capital and China Creation Ventures followed. Next Generation has not disclosed the amount of proceeds.

The five-years old startup has completed two consecutive rounds of financing in three months, totaling nearly $10 million in proceeds, according to 36kr, a tech media. In July this year, Next Generation completed a $5 million Series A round of financing led by China Creation Ventures, followed by Shunwei Capital.

With the fresh fund in bag, Next Generation will not only continue to build a diverse virtual human IP matrix, but will also enhance the intelligence of virtual humans to make them accustom to various scenarios. They will collaborate with multiple platforms like NetEase to carry out "ecological interoperability”, with virtual human as the carrier, according to a statement made by Chen Yan, the founder of Next Generation.

Context:

Next Generation is one of the forerunners in China’s emerging virtual human industry. One of its most notable virtual human product, Ling, has over 427,000 followers on Weibo, and has collaborated with brands like Tesla, Keep, TISSOT and fashion magazine Vogue Me.

Next Generation has established strategic partnerships with many tech companies in China, including Xiaobing. In September this year, Next Generation and AI company Xiao Bing jointly released the world's first "human observer" AI MERROR, which is able to talk to humans and effectively predicting, maintaining and guiding conversations, rather than just responding.
