The Use Case Factory initiative creates and promotes actionable use cases on the SAP Business Technology Platform. These use cases highlight the key SAP BTP capabilities of Integration, Extension, and Data to Value, through the lens of a Line of Business, or Industry business process.

Over the coming weeks, this blog series will showcase 12 different use cases, their associated Journeys, and hopefully inspire some of your session selection at SAP TechEd 2021. First up, an application that extends SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central and enables complex seniority calculations and historical event data to be processed and stored in SAP BTP.

Calculating employee seniority

An employee’s seniority at a company might sound like a simple concept, but there are many different requirements across industries, especially when collective bargaining is involved. A common challenge companies face is updating seniority when a large volume of employees are hired all at once, after a merger or acquisition, for example. American Airlines faced this challenge and solved it with the help of SAP SuccessFactors and SAP Business Technology Platform.

Use case mission: SAP Discovery Center

We would love it if you tried out this use case, through an interactive “mission” on the SAP Discovery Center. You will learn how to work with SAP BTP services such as SAP HANA Cloud, SAP Event Mesh, and SAP Cloud Application Programming (CAP) . If you have an SAP SuccessFactors tenant available, you can fully experience the end-to-end result. If not, you can still try out SAP BTP development using Postman collections that are included with the mission. One of the highlights for me was learning to integrate CAP with the SAP Event Mesh to respond to business events.
