比特币网络的耗电量超过了许多中小国家，因环境足迹饱受批评的比特币矿工如今正与有闲置电力的核电站建立合作关系。高管和分析师认为，双方的合作能解决两个行业的关键问题：比特币矿工希望获得稳定的无碳电力，而面临廉价电力供应来源竞争的核电厂需要新的客户。Talen Energy 与比特币挖矿公司 TeraWulf 建立合资企业，开始为其宾夕法尼亚州核电站附近建造四个足球场大小的挖矿设施进行土地开发。另一家核能公司 Energy Harbor 将从 12 月开始为俄亥俄州的一处 Standard Power 挖矿设施供电。
