Tencent's TiMi studio group opens third North American triple-A game studio in Montreal

Tencent’s TiMi Studio Group has opened another triple-A studio in Montreal, which is the company’s third location to open in North America,

Detail:

TiMi is the popular game studio behind many popular mobile games such as Call of Duty: Mobile, Honor of Kings and Pokemon Unite.

Joining TiMi Los Angeles and TiMi Seattle, TiMi Montreal is Tencent’s third game studio that focus on the development of a brand-new triple-A, open world and game as service title for both PC and console.

Triple-A games refers to big-budget, premium games that have top class graphics, well-designed stories and more than 10 hours of play time. These games are often released on PCs and consoles rather than smartphones.

The team in Montréal is just getting started, with several respected local game developer signing on with an excellent track records in the industry, including Ubisoft, Google Stadia, EA, Rockstar Games, Bethesda Game Studios, Behaviour Interactive, with a few consultants helping as well,” TiMi Studio Group's head of global game development Vincent Gao said.

TiMi also announced that Tencent America executive Sinjin Bain will serve as executive producer at TiMi Los Angeles.

Context:

Tencent’s gaming sector is well known for popular mobile titles, such as Honour of Kings, which has achieved huge success in Asian countries. However, Tencent lacks presences in console game titles especially Triple-A video games.

In May, 2020, Tencent has ramp up its effort to increase its presence in the video game industry by hiring Halo 4 chief designer Scott Warner to head Tencent’s North American locations dedicated to AAA games under TiMi Studios.

Scoot Warner has been in the industry for over 20 years, working in design and game direction at companies including Black Isle Studios, Pandemic Studios, EA and most recently Ubisoft. He played major roles in various video games including Fallout 2, Halo 4 and Battlefield: Hardline.
