露露和娜娜是人类诞生的第一对基因编辑婴儿，她们的 CCR5 基因经过修改以增强对艾滋病的免疫能力。但科学家发现，她们的 CCR5 基因版本并非是最初计划想要的，而是一种全新的版本。两个婴儿的两组 CCR5 基因的编辑不一致。娜娜意外地在一个 CCR5 基因组多了一个碱基对，另一组却被删除了四个碱基对。露露继承自父母的一组 CCR5 基因组意外删除了 15 个碱基对，另一组则没有改变。科学家表示他们还不知道修改后的基因会产生什么后果。由于中国人口众多，流动性大，她们携带的基因流传开来的可能性不大。科学家认为修改人类基因必须非常谨慎。
