Users can now convert units with just a few clicks

The Android Smart Selection feature has been around for a while, and to be honest, it’s one of the features I loved the most about Google’s operating system and which should really make its way to iPhones too.

If you don’t know exactly what it does, the best way to figure this out is to just put it at work once. Head over to a page in Google Chrome and select a piece of text – you should instantly be provided with options that are relevant for the text you just selected.

For example, if you select a phone number, you should see options to call that number. The purpose is to make everything more straightforward and convenient, so overall, the Smart Selection is here to pretty much kill off the classic copy-paste operation.

Hello, unit converter!

And starting this week, the Android Smart Selection has quietly started providing users with a unit conversion option.

In other words, if you select, say speed, you should then see a convert button that lets you quickly use Google to perform a unit conversion online.

If you never used this, you can’t imagine how useful it is, especially for someone who needs to convert various units on multiple occasions each day. It supports more than speed, as it works with pretty much any unit that Google (the search engine) already knows, so you can convert currency if you want.

For the time being, it looks like this feature is gradually rolling out to users out there, as it’s still not available on my Android device, but I guess it’s now just a matter of time until it goes live for everybody.

In the meantime, you can very well try out the Smart Selection without the converter anyway.
