德国媒体采访刘慈欣，大刘说他陷入了写作危机，8年都没写东西了，只是做饭、购物、带孩子，阅读，但没读过什么令他眼前一亮的作品，不禁感叹道“科幻小说越来越无聊了”。在被问到中国现状是否类似《1984》时，他反问：“99%的中国人担心房价，孩子的学费，以及他们是否能负担医疗费用。为什么西方记者不关心这些问题呢？”
