The Atlantic 披露，美国总统特朗普的儿子小特朗普(Donald Trump Jr.)在去年的大选期间与 WikiLeaks 通过 Twitter 的 DM 进行过联系。小特朗普已经证实了此事，并公布了双方的交流信息。The Atlantic 获取的信息显示，WikiLeaks 去年 9 月 20 日 DM 小特朗普，称一个 PAC 运营的反特朗普网站 putintrump.org 准备公布，他们已经猜出了密码，就是“putintrump”，问小特朗普知不知道幕后者是谁。小特朗普在大约 12 小时后进行了回复，并表示感谢。他还通过电子邮件告诉其他竞选官员称 WikiLeaks 联络了他。WikiLeaks 与小特朗普的联系至少持续到 2017 年 7 月，期间 WikiLeaks 提出了一系列越来越大胆的要求，包括要求提供特朗普的纳税申报单，如果竞选失利以选举舞弊拒绝选举结果，以及请求当选总统让澳大利亚任命 Julian Assange 为美国大使。
